Every little helps

On the day of the SJDT there was more than enough work to keep the Train Committee members active. Right from the start it was decided to provide refreshments on board the train in both directions. There may only be 2 tea trolleys but straight away they demand 4 people to operate. Another 2 people were needed to staff the Buffet Car itself. One person was permanently delegated to sell raffle tickets. This leaves only one member of the Committee to do all the other jobs!! Can't be done.

Ian & Jean always ensured all the passengers who booked were actually on the train and adequately seated etc.. So extra help was always needed to do those other "little" jobs.

Guards van full of rubbish

Having served the refreshments and Day Trippers having brought some themselves there was always the little issue of removing the accumulated rubbish. Affectionately known as the Rubbish Run there was not just one performed on each leg of the journey but several. So many in fact what was an empty Guard's van rapidly became a full one. The disabled Day Trippers have a job to find their wheelchairs at journey's end!!

So it is that friends and family were called upon to assist the Train Committee on the day.

A big thank you to all of them from all the Day Trippers and the Committee without your help the days out would not have run so smoothly.
