Overseas beneficiaries
We have given approximately 10% of our funds to overseas charities. One charity in particular struck a cord with the Committee some time back - the Railway Children. We ran a train just for this charity which brought the SJDT out of retirement and back on the rail in 1997.
David Jackson has been in Ecuador working for the Spirit of the Forest charity educating the native population in how to protect the spectacled bear - an endangered species. Our picture (left) shows a cheque for £750 being presented to David's mother, Barbara, by Train Committee Member (and colleague) Pauline Bond in 2005.
