A rather happy and perhaps somewhat embarrassed Mrs Bond receives her £50 cash from Eric the Raffle, the second prize from Super Draw 7. Who says it was fixed? |
A Day in East Anglia
The 37th St. James' Day Tripper picked up at our usual stations of Preston, Bamber Bridge, Cherry Tree, Blackburn, Rishton, Accrington and Burnley, Rose Grove on the outward journey with a total of 492 passengers on board. The morning had started with some rain and those passengers raining on the smaller stations with little shelter got a little wet!
The journey was at a fairly leisurely pace with a couple of stops for locomotive crew change at Doncaster and Peterborough. As we approached Ely we were informed that everyone would have to get off the train whilst an engine run-round was performed in the Goods sidings.
So all the passengers and service crew with the exception of wheelchair passengers duly got off the train as it started to rain. Some 20 minutes later the train came into the platform with 31128 at the front.
Norwich was reached some 10 minutes early in fine weather.
The locomotives performed well to Norwich but on the return 31459 Cerberus suffered some problems leaving 31128 Charybdis to do all the work. Copy Pit was surmounted with some effort at low speed.
