And so we ran a steam Day Tripper. |
| Bookings for the train were opened on 15 January 2003 some passengers having beaten this by downloading our booking form from this site. All tickets were sold by the end of February with some regulars not able to ride with us due to the unprecedented demand. In late April the independent radio station Rock FM and their sister station Magic 999 held a charity auction for a day proceeds going to their charity - Help a Local Child. Eric heard of the auction and convinced Ian to squeeze 2 more passengers into the Buffet Car by donating 2 tickets to the auction. Francis McCaffery paid £100 for these very last tickets so that his father-in-law, Brian Fare of Wesham, could ride behind a steam locomotive as a birthday treat. Brian worked on the railways in steam days. Our picture shows Brian and his wife in the seats on the outward journey. |
