Mr & Mrs Day Tripper

It was Ian's initial idea supported by Jean and their family and friends. Money wasn't coming into the redevelopment project at St. James' Church so Ian thought outside of the box. Which took us all the way to Canterbury and Dover in 1987 at a loss!

Perseverance pays off

If one loss wasn't enough the next SJDT suffered another! But the threatened closure of the Settle-Carlisle line was his savour. 2 full trains in quick succession took the SJDT from loss to handsome profit and the rest is history.

Now Ian has had a taste of organising days out he has moved up a gear to weeks out and away from these shores with SJDT Off-Rail.

Their children have been members of the Service Crew over the years. Grand children are now on the scene and would you be surprised to find they have a love of railways?

Responsibilities Ian had the greatest responsibly. He chose the dates (so they don't coincide with Rovers fixtures even though we always had a number of Burnley and Preston fans travelling regularly). He negotiated a price for the train. Got the trains ready for travel and a whole host of other things including financial.

Jean looked after bookings as the Bookings Secretary and supported Ian in his activities.
